2nd international violin competition "Witold Rowicki in memoriam" in Żywiec


 


Between 25 and 27 October 2017 the Witold Rowicki State First Level Music School and the Local Government Second Level Music School in Żywiec hosted the 2 nd International Violin Competition “Witold Rowicki in Memoriam”. It was addressed to pupils of the first and second level music schools.


The aim of the Competition was to present the artistic achievements of young violinists, to promote young soloist with interesting personality, to exchange music experience and to give young artists the possibility to have consultation with the renowned Jury.

The Jury consisted of: Professor Paweł Radziński (the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz), Professor Wiesław Kwaśny (the Academy of Music in Kraków), Professor Andrzej Gębski (the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw), Professor Tomasz Tomaszewski (Universität der Künste Berlin) and Professor Savva Fatkulin (Centro Superior Educación Musical Katarina Gurskain Madrid).

The participating violinists competed in 2 age categories:
Group A – pupils of first level Music Schools
Group B – pupils of second level Music Schools

There were 13 persons in Group A and 14 persons were enrolled in Group B.
The participants were from Berlin, Wadowice, Warsaw, Inowrocław, Madrid, Kielce, Bydgoszcz, Ostrów Wielkopolski, Poznań, Düsseldorf, Bielsko Biała, Żagań, Hannover. The auditions for the competition were public. They were held in the Concert Hall of the Witold Rowicki State First Level Music School in Żywiec.

6 violinists from Group A and 7 violinists from Group B were admitted to the second round of the competition. During the final concerts the participants were accompanied by the Chamber Orchestra "Accademia dell' Arco".

1st Prize: not awarded

2nd Prize: Mateusz Izdebski - Complex of State Music Schools (ZPSM) No. 1 in Warsaw (teacher: M. Machalska)

3rd Prize: Maja Cichoń - State First and Second Level Music School (PSM) in Żagań (teacher: I. Zapolska)

Honourable mentions: Kacper Kubica - Complex of State Music Schools (ZPSM) in Bielsko-Biała (teacher: P. Chromiec), Zofia Kowalska – State First and Second Level Music School (PSM) in Inowrocław (teacher: I. Duda)

 

Group B

1st Prize: not awarded

2nd Prize: Leonard Toschev - Universität der Künste Berlin (teacher: T. Tomaszewski) and Jaime Maceira Naya - Centro Superior Educación Musical Katarina Gurska España (nauczyciel: S. Fatkulin)

3rd Prize: Maximilian Beer - Bach Gymnasium Berlin (teacher: T. Tomaszewski), Jakub Izdebski - ZPSM nr 1 w Warszawie (nauczyciel: A. Betley – Gębska), Maja Chlebicka - OSM II st. w Warszawie (nauczyciel: P. Radziński)

Honourable mentions: Justyna Grudzień - State Comprehensive Second Level Music School (POSM) in Poznań (teacher: K. Gidaszewska), Kamila Owsiany – Comprehensive Second Level Music School (OSM) No. 1 in Warsaw (teacher: A. Gębski, A. Betley-Gębska)

 

The honour diploma for the accompanying pianist was awarded to Antoni Lichomanow.

 

The main sponsor of awards for the Competition laureates was the granddaughter of Witold Rowicki – Agnieszka Pyrich (President of Konsbud Audio), who funded both financial prizes and in-kind awards.The Sponsors included also:Head of the Local District of Żywiec – Andrzej Kalata and Mayor of the Town of Żywiec – Antoni Szlagor.

In addition, the daughter of Witold Rowicki – Magdalena Krzysztofowicz-Pospiech handed over the publication "Witold Rowicki in memoriam" to the laureates on behalf of the Warsaw Philharmonic.
